The Council for Exceptional Children

The Council for Exceptional Children is a professional association of educators dedicated to advancing the success of children with exceptionalities.

CEC develops standards, ethics and practices, and guidelines for educators, examines policy issues, and develops responses to those issues and influences local, state, provincial and federal legislation. CEC also monitors and makes recommendations for program regulations and funding.

CEC offers educators aids to assist them in providing special education services, including publications for new teachers, tools to use in the classroom, podcasts for educators, professional development offerings (may count toward professional development hours), and recommended resources for the families of children with exceptionalities.

Special Education topics covered on the CEC website includes information about the different exceptionality areas; international special education; hot topics in special education; and professional practice topics such as assessment, evidence-based practices and inclusion.
